During and following my university studies in the visual arts, I participated in writing, editing and translating a number of catalogues for contemporary art exhibitions. Clients may be interested to know that much of the dialogue in contemporary art is a hermeneutic one, meaning that it is inspired by the question of “what is interpretation?” … what better breeding ground for becoming a translator?
In the design field, I have provided German-to-English translations of annual catalogues, press releases and other communications materials for the reddot design award, the world’s largest and most renowned design competition (www.red-dot.de) as well as for the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen. Here too, my academic background, not only in the visual arts but also in semiotics and linguistics, has helped tremendously.
